Went from a cheap blade grinder to a burr grinder six months back, what a difference

I used to just grab whatever pre-ground beans were on sale at the grocery store and call it a day. My coffee always came out bitter or sour, no in between. Then my brother in law gave me his old Baratza Encore last Christmas and I started buying whole beans from a local roaster downtown. The first morning I ground fresh and brewed a pour over, I couldn't believe I was drinking the same kind of drink. The flavors were actually clear and I could taste notes like chocolate and berry without it being a guessing game. Now I won't even touch pre-ground coffee unless I'm camping and have no other option. Has anyone else made the switch and felt like it was a totally different hobby afterward?

Yeah honestly it's kind of a thing with a lot of hobbies, like once you get past the cheap entry level stuff everything opens up. @charles_price nailed it, I feel like half the time we don't even know what we're missing until we accidentally stumble into better gear or a better process.

Went from a cheap blade grinder to a burr grinder" was the exact same step for me, and yeah it turned coffee from just caffeine delivery into something I actually look forward to tasting. It's wild how much of a difference consistent grounds make, like you're finally drinking what the roaster intended.

Get yourself a little spray bottle and mist the beans before grinding. That static cling disappears and you won't lose half your grounds to the counter.
