Can we talk about how I read comics wrong for 20 years?
For two decades I read every comic in one sitting, front to back, like a novel, and always felt like I was missing half the story. Then last month my buddy Dale from the shop in Fresno pointed out that I was speeding past splash pages and never looking at panel order, and suddenly a single issue of Saga made way more sense. Did anyone else figure this out late, or was it just me?
Took me even longer to figure out that panel order actually changes how your eye moves across the page, so an artist can slow you down or speed you up on purpose. Once I started reading left to right, top to bottom, and actually letting my eyes rest on the quiet panels, a single issue started feeling like a full meal instead of a snack. Reading slower is the real fix here, not just reading differently.
