Guy at my LCS said reading digitally is 'cheating', now I'm conflicted

Last Saturday at Mile High Comics in Denver, this older collector saw me flipping through a hardcover and goes 'you know that doesn't count if you read it on a tablet, right? You're not really experiencing the art.' At first I laughed it off, but later I realized he had a point about page turns and panel pacing. I've bought over 300 digital issues on Comixology since 2016, and I do skim faster when I'm on my phone. Do you think the physical format genuinely changes how you absorb a story, or is that just gatekeeping from people with full longboxes? Curious if anyone else has shifted their stance after a random shop conversation.
