I chose to collect single issues over trades and my friends think I'm nuts

My local shop had a full run of a 90s X-Men arc, about 40 books for $80, but the collected trade was only $25. I bought the singles because I love the ads and letter columns, things you lose in the trade. Has anyone else made a similar choice for the 'floppy' experience over convenience?

That 90s X-Men run is a great find, but I'm pretty sure that $80 for 40 books works out to two bucks each, not a dollar.

Get why you like the old ads and stuff, but paying over three times the price for the same story seems wild to me.

Look at the math again... if it's 40 books for 80 bucks, that's two dollars each, not one. The original post said a dollar a book, so the price is actually double, not triple. Still a big jump, but the starting point was off.
