I used to always bag up my pull list comics right away but now I leave them out for a week first

Back in the early 2000s I'd get home from my shop in Portland and bag and board every issue before I even looked at it. I thought I was protecting them or whatever. But about three years ago I realized I was missing out on just flipping through them and enjoying the art and reading a few pages before filing them away. Now I stack them on my coffee table for a solid week, read a couple issues each night, and only then do I bag them up. One of my buddies at the shop said I was crazy and risking spine damage but honestly I've got graded books from 1985 that are fine. I still bag them eventually just not with the same frantic energy. Anyone else slow down their processing routine like this or am I the odd one out?

Playing devil's advocate here but leaving them loose is actually asking for trouble. A stack on a coffee table gets bumped, slid around, or dropped so easily compared to books that are bagged and boarded right away. One clumsy friend or a knocked-over drink and that week of "enjoying them" turns into a expensive pile of damaged comics.

Right, the "clumsy friend" danger. I read a forum post once where a guy said his cat knocked over a stack of 50 comics and they slid all over the floor. Totally warped a few covers. That's the trade-off. I just keep my stack on a high shelf now, away from the main action.
