I was looking at some old convention attendance numbers from the 1990s.

I found a report from a 1995 San Diego Comic-Con that showed they only had about 35,000 attendees, which is a tiny fraction of the over 130,000 people they get now, and it really makes you think about how much the fanbase has grown in a single generation.

Yeah I always thought it was huge back then too, that number really puts it in perspective.

Man, that really takes me back. I still remember going to a tiny comic show in a hotel basement back in '94 or '95, it was maybe 20 tables set up in a banquet room. One guy was selling old action figures from his trunk, and I grabbed a mint-in-box He-Man for like 5 bucks. Now you can't even get into a mainstream con without a lottery ticket and a second mortgage. Makes you wonder what conventions will look like in another 30 years, right?
