I wasted $80 on a signed comic that turned out fake
Bought a supposedly signed first print of The Walking Dead #1 from a guy at a convention in Portland last summer. Got it home and compared the signature to pictures online and it didn't match at all. The seller ghosted me when I tried to contact him through the con's vendor list. Has anyone else gotten burned by fake signatures at shows?

Man, that stings. How much did you pay for the ticket to get into the con that day? Because if you paid a cover charge just to walk in, then another $80 for that book, you basically got hit twice. I always wonder if these shows do any kind of due diligence on their vendors or if it's just a free-for-all. Did the convention have any kind of booth where you could report something like this on site, or were you just stuck chasing the guy down yourself after the fact?

It's a pattern I see everywhere now. Walk into any big event these days and you're basically paying for the privilege of getting overcharged by someone else. Conventions, music festivals, even farmers markets have turned into this weird ecosystem where you pay a cover to get in and then every single thing inside is marked up to hell. The vendors know most people aren't leaving once they've already paid the door fee, so they can charge whatever they want. It's like a two step tax on having fun that nobody talks about because everyone's just used to it by now. Makes you wonder if the con organizers even care or if they're just counting the cash from both sides.
