My friend's comic shop versus the big chain store downtown

I started going to a local shop called 'The Panel' instead of the big store in the mall. The owner at The Panel remembered my name after two visits and actually talked to me about what I was reading. Do you think that personal touch is what makes a shop worth supporting?

My local record store guy has saved me from buying three terrible albums this month alone. That kind of service is everything.

See, that's the real value right there, @lindareed. It's not just about saving money, it's about saving your time and your trust. How many hours would you have lost listening to those bad albums before you figured it out for yourself? That guy is basically a filter for all the noise. Makes you wonder what we're missing now that most music shopping is just a click on a screen, doesn't it?

Play devil's advocate here but the big store has way better prices and I can order whatever I want online and pick it up. The Panel owner remembering your name is nice but does he give you discounts or hold rare issues for you like the big store does with their loyalty program? I just want my comics quick and cheap, not a chat.
