Serious question, does liking Silver Age Batman make you a bad fan?
A guy at my local shop told me I was stuck in the past for preferring the campy 1960s Batman over the dark Knight Returns stuff. He said real fans move with the times and appreciate the grit. But isn't it okay to just enjoy what you grew up with, or does sticking to one era mean you're not a true comic book fan?

Man, I've been there. Some guy at my shop told me I was reading 'junk' for grabbing a Silver Age Flash off the wall. I just shrugged and said 'I like what I like.' What worked for me was remembering that nobody gets to decide what makes a 'real' fan. I grew up on the Adam West show and the old comics my dad had, and I still love that stuff. But I also like a lot of the newer Batman books too. You can have it all. There's no test you have to pass to be a fan.

Pretty sure I failed that test about ten times over the years... I once brought a stack of old Rom comics to a trade night and got a look like I'd shown up with a bag of wet trash. But you know what, I still dig those space knight stories. Nobody gets to be the gatekeeper for your fun... we're all just people who like the funny books, no matter how goofy they get.
