TIL my local comic shop owner kept a pull list going for a kid who died, and his mom still picks up the books
Stopped by my shop in Sacramento last Wednesday to grab my pulls and the owner Dave was bagging up a stack for a name I didn't know. I asked who it was and he got real quiet and said it was a kid named Marcus who used to come in every week with his mom. Marcus passed away about 6 months ago, but Dave never took the name off the list. His mom still comes in on the first Wednesday of the month, pays for the books, and takes them home. Dave said she told him it helps her feel like she still knows what he would have liked. I just stood there holding my own stack feeling like a jerk for ever complaining about a late shipment. Anyone else have a shop owner who does stuff like this? I feel like we never talk about the people behind the counter.
