Trying to organize my comic collection by story arc was a nightmare

I thought sorting by event like 'Secret Wars' or 'Knightfall' would be easy, but crossovers and tie-ins from different series made it a mess. It took me like 8 hours over a weekend just to get the 90s X-Men stuff in some kind of order. How do you guys sort your stuff, by character, publisher, or just release date?

Boxes are a perfectly valid system.

God, that's the whole mood lately. I see it everywhere, from my own messy closet to people just tossing stuff in their car trunk. It feels like we're all just hitting a wall and choosing "done" over "good.
