Warning: my comic collection got ruined by a leaky pipe last Tuesday

I came home from work and found water dripping from the ceiling right onto my long box of Silver Age X-Men. About 30 issues got wet, including a pretty nice copy of X-Men #12 I got at a garage sale for 5 bucks. The water damage warped the covers and made some pages stick together. I tried drying them out carefully with fans but the damage is done. My landlord is fixing the pipe but that doesn't bring back my comics. Has anyone else had their collection wrecked by something dumb like a leak or a flood?

Man that sucks about the X-Men #12 especially. I've noticed how life has this way of hitting you right in the stuff you care about most. Like it knows exactly where to aim. I had a similar thing happen with some old records a few years back. Just a dumb little leak from a washing machine upstairs. Now I keep everything in plastic bins off the floor. Still, you can't plan for everything.

That line about life "knowing exactly where to aim" hits close to home. X-Men #12 is a rough one to lose, especially if it was a key issue. I've got a few books from that era and I'd be sick if something happened to them. The plastic bin trick is smart, I might steal that idea for my own stuff. Water damage is just one of those things that sneaks up on you when you least expect it.
