Went to a comic con in Denver and saw something sketchy
I was at Denver Pop Culture Con last weekend and noticed a guy buying up 20 copies of a hot new issue from every booth. He was stacking them in a duffel bag and not even looking at the art. My buddy said he's probably one of those flippers who resells them online for triple the price the next day. Has anyone else run into people like that at their local shows?

Oh man, I gotta push back on this a little. Flippers aren't ruining anything, they're just smart about supply and demand. If someone drops cash to buy 20 copies and drags a duffel bag around, they're taking a risk on that book actually popping off. Most hot issues end up being worthless flops, so they're gambling just like anyone else who picks up a variant cover hoping it'll be worth something someday. Plus, if a book is really that good, the publisher can just print more copies for readers who missed out. The real issue is stores not setting their own limits, not the guy hustling to make his rent money.

Yeah I read something about this whole flipping thing in some article about how it's wrecking the hobby for actual readers. That guy with the duffel bag sounds like a textbook flipper, they don't care about the story or the art they just see dollar signs. Denver con had a limit on some variant covers I saw online, like one per person, but I guess not every booth was doing that. It's a bummer because then regular fans can't even get a copy without paying crazy prices online the same week.
