Decided to help with line tending, realized I'd been using my bailout bottle backwards for 2 years

Got moved to a tender role last month on a job near Port Sulphur, Louisiana. We rigged up a new bailout bottle and the other diver asked why my SPG hose was routed under my arm instead of over. Turns out I'd been breathing from my reserve in a way that could kink the hose under my gear, and nobody caught it on any checkout dive. The kicker is I did all my certs in 2021 and NEVER had an instructor check that hose path. Felt like an idiot, but now I check my bottle routing on every splash before the bell drops. Has anyone else had a config habit that slipped through for way too long?

Man, that hits home. It's wild how we can do something for years and just never question it, even when it's staring us in the face. I had a similar thing with my firewood splitting wedge, I always set it at the same angle without thinking, then one day a buddy pointed out I was making it way harder on myself. It makes you wonder what other blind spots we're walking around with, in diving or just in general. Usually takes one person to ask "why" before it clicks.
