My primary reg failed at 90 feet in the Mississippi last month and I was on my own for 4 minutes
I was doing a routine inspection on a lock and dam near Baton Rouge three weeks ago when my primary reg started free-flowing at 90 feet. My bailout bottle was right there but I fumbled the switch for what felt like forever in that muddy water. Took me almost 4 minutes to get breathing off the pony and surface, which is way too long when you can't see your own hand. The reg had maybe 200 hours on it since its last service and I thought I was staying on top of maintenance. I'm done trusting a single reg on deep river work, I don't care what the manual says about service intervals. Anyone else running a redundant setup on every dive now, or am I just spooked?
