PSA: That dive supervisor in Houston who told me "slow is smooth, smooth is fast" was actually wrong about my knot tying
He watched me take an extra 30 seconds on a rope splice during a 60-foot repair on the Sabine River bridge last July, then said I was wasting time, but three days later his knot slipped under load and he needed a full surface assist while mine held fine.

Read somewhere that old diving adages can be real hit or miss depending on the context, you know? Guess it just goes to show that sometimes a few extra seconds on a knot is worth it when the alternative is a full rescue op.

Had a buddy once who spent like ten minutes retying his tank line cause it didn't feel right. Everyone else was already in the water giving him grief about being slow. Turned out his first knot would have slipped loose at depth, and that ten minutes probably saved him from a real bad day underwater.
