Warning: My worst week underwater in the Gulf taught me a hard lesson about gear checks

I had a week last July on a dive boat out of Morgan City where everything that could go wrong did. First day my regulator started free flowing at 60 feet and I had to abort a hull inspection. Then on Wednesday a hose burst on my dry suit during a 90 minute bottom time on a pipeline repair job. The real kicker came Friday when my air supply valve got jammed open and I surfaced way too fast, got a mild case of the bends that kept me out for two weeks. Anyone else ever have a string of bad luck like that or was I just cursed that week?

Three regulators in one week? Man that's like winning the bad luck lottery. I had a similar streak in the Keys last year. Snapped my fin strap getting into the water on Monday. Then my dive computer died at 40 feet Tuesday. Took me ten minutes to realize I was breathing off my buddy's spare because mine was leaking. Felt like the ocean was personally out to get me.

You ever have those trips where you wonder if you pissed off a sea god or something? I swear my last dive in Cozumel was cursed too. Forgot my weight belt on the boat and had to borrow one that kept slipping down around my ankles. Then my mask strap snapped halfway through the dive and I had to hold it on with one hand the whole time. Looked like a complete fool flailing around trying to take a photo of a sea turtle with my other hand.
