Found a weird fix for a laptop that wouldn't power on after a spill

After a client brought in a coffee-soaked laptop that was completely dead, I disconnected the battery and left just the main board and keyboard in a sealed bag with a cup of dry rice for 48 hours, and it booted right up, so has anyone else had luck with that specific method for non-corrosive spills?

My shop uses silica gel like mitchell.daniel said, it's much more reliable.

Rice can work in a pinch but it's not the best. Silica gel packs are way better at pulling out moisture.
