Had a power supply go up in smoke yesterday taking out a whole RAID array

Man I had something similar happen a few years back with a cheapo PSU and it took out two drives before I could kill the power. What worked for me was switching to a UPS with proper surge protection and getting a PSU with better reviews for reliability. Since then I keep backups on a separate NAS and test them regularly so I don't lose everything if the power goes bad again.

Three RAID5 arrays running off a single power supply here for like 6 years without a hiccup. I get why people worry about single points of failure but honestly most PSU failures happen within the first year if they're gonna happen. @oscarh16's backup plan sounds smart but it adds complexity and cost that not everyone needs. Half the time when a PSU goes it just dies quietly without taking anything with it, especially if you have decent overcurrent protection on the board itself.
