I finally bought a proper cable toner after fighting with a rat's nest for 2 hours

Spent about $80 on a Klein Tools toner and probe kit last month. I was tracing a mess of unlabeled Cat5 runs in a client's office and figured my old continuity tester would cut it. Nope. Two hours of pulling my hair out before I gave in and ordered one. It paid for itself on that one job alone. Has anyone else found a cheaper set that works just as well for home use?

That actually reminds me of something I read on a tech forum a while back about how even the cheap toner sets can be hit or miss. The Klein Tools seems to be the sweet spot for most people. I had a similar situation at home last year, trying to trace a line from the attic to the basement. My buddy swears by the Southwire set he got for around $50, says it works fine for his home network. The issue with the real budget ones is they can have trouble with interference from other electronics or longer runs. For home use, you can probably get away with something cheaper than the Klein, but it's a gamble on how much time you'll waste if it doesn't work well.
