Just realized a client's PC went from 45 sec boot to 8 sec and all I did was pull one thing
A lady brought in her tower to my bench in Boise two weeks ago, said it took almost 45 seconds just to hit the desktop. I opened it up and the inside looked like a lint trap, dust bunnies the size of golf balls packed into the CPU heatsink. Cleaned it out with canned air and a soft brush, swapped the crusty thermal paste, and also noticed she had TWO antivirus programs both scanning everything at startup. Killed one of them and the boot time dropped to 8 seconds flat, she literally said 'that's it?' and laughed. Same hardware, same drive, zero parts sold. Now I'm wondering how many 'slow PC' tickets are really just dust plus duplicate security software, what's the weirdest easy fix you guys have seen flip a machine like that?
