My neighbor's kid just told me I was wrong about static electricity
I was fixing his laptop and went to grab a RAM stick from the bag on my couch. He stopped me and said, "My teacher said you need to touch the metal case first, not just the bag." I've been doing this for eight years and always just touched the bag. It made me stop and actually look it up, and he was right. How many other little habits do we have that are just slightly off?

My old boss swore by just touching the bag, too.

Grab a cheap anti-static wrist strap and clip it to the metal part of the case. It grounds you through the power supply, which is way more reliable than just touching a bag. That one habit fixes most of those little "off" things you don't even think about.
