PSA: That 'pro' data recovery software from RecoverIt cost me $150 and a whole afternoon
Had a client with a dead SSD that wouldn't mount, and their marketing made it sound like it could pull anything. Ran the deep scan for 6 hours, it 'found' all the files, but the $150 license only lets you save 3 of them. Total waste. What do you guys actually use for client data recovery when drives are acting up?

Their marketing is a total trap for desperate people. I've seen way too many clients get burned by that exact bait and switch. For actual recovery, I only trust tools that show you what you're buying before you pay.

What if the real problem is how they target people when they're most vulnerable? That timing makes it way harder to think straight about what you're actually getting. It feels less like a sale and more like taking advantage.

See, I actually don't mind the timing of their marketing... it's when people are already looking for answers anyway. That's not tricking anyone, that's just being where the need is. The real issue I have is with people who expect a full product demo before spending a dime, that's not how most helpful tools work in practice. Sometimes you have to trust the process a little and that's okay, not everything can be laid out perfectly beforehand.
