Stumbled across a small repair shop in Portland with a crazy clean workspace
Was in Portland visiting family last month and walked into this tiny computer repair shop where the guy had all his cables zip-tied to the underside of his workbench with little labeling tags. Anyone here ever bother with that kind of cable management or am I just a slob for letting mine hang everywhere?

My uncle runs a recording studio and he does the same thing with his patch cables - says it shaves 15 minutes off his setup time every session.

Yeah so @reeselewis, your uncle is clearly living in 3024 while the rest of us are still back in 2024. I tried that whole color code thing once and ended up with a guitar cable plugged into my pedalboard's power input. Smelled like burnt toast and regret for about two hours. It was honestly impressive how wrong I got it. But your uncle probably didn't try to do it by candlelight at 2am after three cups of coffee. I'm guessing he's a level of organized I will never reach. Maybe I need to tape a color chart to my gear before I try again.

Candlelight is probably part of the issue there, honestly. Color coding works great when you can actually see the colors. But fair point on the burnt toast smell, I've been there with a miswired power supply and it's a special kind of frustration. Reese's uncle probably has his whole setup memorized in daylight though. Bet he's got a system where every cable is velcro-strapped and labeled too. My buddy does that and he still grabs the wrong one half the time. Maybe we all just need better lighting and a second cup of coffee before touching patch bays.
