The customer's 'too clean' comment changed my whole repair bench setup

I used to keep my workbench pretty messy, tools all over, spare screws in piles, you know the deal. Last month a client watched me fix their laptop and said, 'You obviously know what you're doing, but I'd never trust you with my data looking at this chaos.' That hit me hard, idk why. So I spent a weekend reorganizing everything, labeled bins, magnetic strip for drivers, even got a $25 mat to catch tiny screws. Now I actually spend less time hunting for parts and more time on the actual fix. Has anyone else had a customer or coworker say something that made you rethink your setup in an unexpected way?

Well, that's a pretty sharp wake-up call to get from a client. But I'm curious, what changed the most for you, the physical layout or your own headspace when you walk up to the bench now? I mean, did you find yourself second-guessing the old mess because it actually slowed you down, or because you finally saw it through a customer's eyes? I'm asking because I've seen guys keep a clean shop just for show, but the real test is whether you can find a specific screwdriver in the dark without moving a single bin. Seems like that $25 mat might be the least important thing you bought that weekend.
