Vent: That $120 NVMe cloning dock I bought last month was a total waste

Picked up one of those dual bay USB docks that claims to clone drives without a PC. Spent 45 minutes fighting with it on Saturday, the clone failed twice and corrupted the source drive's partition table on the third try. Thank goodness I had a backup. Ended up just using a $15 SATA to USB adapter and dd from my laptop, worked in 10 minutes. Has anyone else gotten burned by these standalone cloning docks, or did I just buy a bad one?
