Working on a 2005 Dell Optiplex in my first shop job taught me to always check the basics first.
I was in a small repair shop in Albany, convinced a whole motherboard was dead. I spent an hour swapping parts before my boss walked over, popped out the CMOS battery for ten seconds, and put it back. The thing booted right up. I felt like a total rookie. Now I keep a pack of CR2032 batteries in my kit. Anyone else have a simple fix that saved them from a huge mistake?

Man you really went full detective on a case the CMOS battery could have solved in 30 seconds huh? I can just picture the boss doing that slow walk over while you're surrounded by parts. That's the kind of lesson that sticks with you forever. At least now you're the person with the battery pack saving the next rookie.

But is a dead battery really that big of a deal?
