An old timer told me my broom finish was too wet and I was just pushing paste around.
He said to wait until the bleed water was gone and the sheen was off, which on that 75-degree day in Boise meant waiting a full 45 minutes after the float, and now my texture actually holds up.

Had the same issue with my first few pours. Letting it set up longer made all the difference, just like your guy said. The finish finally stopped tearing and looked way more professional.

Yeah, letting it set up longer is key. I read somewhere that the waiting time is the hardest part to get right, but it makes or breaks the finish.
