Foreman in Denver told me he adds a capful of dish soap to his float water, and I finally tried it
Was pouring a 40 by 60 slab outside Denver last Tuesday and the finisher running the crew saw me fighting a crusty edge with straight water. He said he keeps a squirt of Dawn in his bucket so the float glides instead of dragging, and that he picked it up from an old guy in Pueblo back in the 90s. I tried it on the next pour and the cream stayed workable about 10 minutes longer before it started to set on me. The soap breaks the surface tension just enough that the trowel doesn't tear the paste, but you can overdo it and get bubbles if you dump too much in. Curious if anyone else does this and how much you actually put in a 5 gallon bucket, because a capful felt about right but I don't want to guess wrong on a big pour.
