Overheard a homeowner in Phoenix say they picked their contractor based on the finish of the garage floor

It was a basic broom finish, but they said it looked 'honest and even'. Made me realize clients notice the small, consistent work more than we think. What's a simple detail you've had a client point out?

That's a good point about clients noticing small things. I'd say outlet covers being straight is more about basic workmanship than a small detail, though. Even @river_rivera45's client probably noticed because so many people do it poorly. The garage floor story shows they're looking at the quality of the main job itself.

Does your buddy still talk to that client? My friend did a bathroom remodel a few years back, tiled the whole shower himself. Client barely mentioned the tile work but went on and on about how he lined up the grout lines with the edge of the sink cabinet. Said it looked like a pro did it. My friend just nodded and tried not to laugh because he almost messed that part up twice. It's weird what people latch onto. But I guess if you miss one small thing, they'll remember that more than the stuff you got right.

Lol that's wild. I had a client get weirdly happy about how straight the outlet covers were on a whole wall.
