Plastic sheeting under the slab is not a suggestion, learned that the hard way

Did a patio pour outside of Boise last summer, 40 by 12 feet, and skipped the vapor barrier because the ground looked dry. Two months later the client called about a damp garage corner, turns out the moisture came right up through the concrete. Tore out a section and found the slab sitting on wet fill, no barrier, just my shortcut. That fix cost me about $900 in material and a weekend of demo, way more than the $60 for plastic would have been. I now lay 6 mil poly on every pour, even if it takes an extra hour. Anyone else had a moisture issue come back to bite them after skipping the vapor barrier?
