That California curb job that made me totally rethink my finishing technique

I was working a residential driveway in Fresno last summer, 95 degree heat and the concrete was setting up way faster than I planned for. I tried to power trowel it like I always do and ended up with a rough, uneven surface that took three days to grind down and fix. Has anyone else had to completely change their timing or method after a specific job messed them up like this?

A buddy of mine had his trowel machine seize up mid-pour on a hot Texas day. He ended up hand finishing the whole driveway with a wet rag and a broom, took forever. Sometimes you just gotta throw the plan out the window and work with what the concrete gives you.

@marywells had a buddy who wrapped duct tape around a busted trowel blade just to finish the last slab before sundown, did it work?
