Vent: spent 2 hours chasing a birdbath on a 10x12 slab in Bakersfield
I poured a small patio for a lady in Bakersfield on Saturday and got a birdbath low spot right in the middle, so I kept troweling and floating at it thinking I could work it out. Ended up messing with that one spot for almost 2 hours while the rest of the slab sat there, and it still wasn't flat when I finished. My older finisher buddy Ray told me I should've caught it during the strike off instead of trying to fix it after, and honestly he's right. How do you all handle a birdbath when the mud's already going off, do you just live with it or cut it out and patch?
Ray telling you to catch it during the strike off is easy to say when the mud's already set and you're standing there looking at it. Cutting it out and patching later usually looks worse than just leaving the birdbath, since the patch never really blends in.
