A client told me her stylist charged $180 for a 20 minute root touch up and I didn't believe her
She pulled up the receipt right there at my chair, $180 plus tip, in and out in 19 minutes flat. I've been doing this 11 years in Columbus and my full color starts at $95, so now I'm rethinking every price sheet I've ever written. Any of you working in a bigger market seeing those kind of numbers for a quick root retouch, or is that just a downtown thing?
Sat there nodding my head reading this. Had almost the exact same thing happen last year, a lady in my chair showed me a receipt for $165 for a root touch up that took maybe 25 minutes. I charged $70 for the same thing at the time. Took me a solid week to stop being mad about it. Thing is, those downtown salons have rent that would make your eyes water, so they have to charge wild prices just to keep the lights on. Doesn't make it feel less crazy when you see it on paper though. I bumped my prices up a little after that but nowhere near that level, folks around here would laugh me out of the shop.
