Foils vs cap highlights - I think one is way overrated
I've been doing color for about 8 years now, mostly in a salon outside of Denver. For the longest time I swore by cap highlights for full head color because that's how I learned. But about 6 months ago I had a client come in with super thick curly hair and the cap just wasn't working. Took me almost 2 hours to pull through and the pattern looked patchy. Switched to foils on her next visit and finished in 45 minutes with way better separation. Now I'm wondering if I've been making things harder than they need to be for years. Foils give me more control over placement and I can see exactly what's happening. But caps are way cheaper on supplies and some of the older stylists at my shop swear by them for speed. Am I missing something with caps or is this just a generational thing where people don't want to give up their old methods? Has anyone else switched and regretted it or found a trick that makes caps work better?

Cap highlights are just not great for curly hair, stick with foils for that.
