Had a client at work yesterday who changed how I do consultations

I was doing a perm at Ulta in Denver on a woman named Rita, and she told me flat out that every stylist she ever saw ignored her hair history. She had a bad chemical cut back in 2019 and nobody asked about it. That one comment made me realize I've been skipping the part where I ask about old damage from years ago. Do you guys have a specific set of questions you run through before any service, or do you wing it like I was doing?

My first client on Monday had me testing this out and I asked if she ever had a bad haircut as a kid. She said her mom gave her a bowl cut in third grade and she still has nightmares about it. I laughed so hard I almost dropped my comb. Now I just ask "any old disasters I should know about?" and it usually gets people talking.

lol "any old disasters" is such a good way to put it. It's funny how once you start asking stuff like that, you realize pretty much everyone has some cringey memory from childhood they still think about.
