Hot take: a spray bottle of mouthwash saved a box color gone brassy

Client came in with a box dye job that pulled orange at the roots and I had 20 minutes before her kid's recital, so I mixed cheap mint mouthwash into a dilute toner and it cooled the brass right out. Has anyone else used weird drugstore stuff as a color fixer, or am I the only one raiding the dollar aisle at 6pm?
