I switched from a full highlight to a balayage focus about a year ago, and my client retention jumped.

I used to block out 3 hours for a standard foil highlight, but now I can achieve a more natural look with hand painting in about 90 minutes. The change came after a client in her 40s said she wanted 'less maintenance, more dimension.' Has anyone else seen a bigger demand for this technique lately?

Yeah, because nothing says 'less maintenance' like spending half the time in my chair. Sign me up.

Seriously, what's the actual time split for you? Like, are we talking about constant little adjustments all day, or just a few minutes every hour? I've seen setups that need you to tweak the tilt every twenty minutes, which is a full-time job itself.

Right? It's not just about the time saved in the chair. That grow-out period is so much softer, so clients really do wait longer between appointments.
