Just learned hot tools can damage hair even at lower temps if you're using them wrong

I was at a workshop last weekend and the educator said using a flat iron at 300 degrees but dragging it slowly can cause more breakage than a quick pass at 380. Blew my mind since I always thought lower heat was safer. Has anyone else tested this with their clients?

The dragging slowly part got me. I always tell people to keep the iron moving but now I'm wondering how many of my clients have been slowly frying their ends thinking they're being careful. 300 degrees seems so harmless compared to 380, but the time the heat sits on each section makes total sense. One of my coworkers uses 400 for quick passes and her hair looks way healthier than mine with my gentle 320 drags. Maybe I need to actually time myself and see how fast I'm going.
