My blow dryer caught fire mid-curl on a client Tuesday
I was doing a full set of soft curls on Mrs. Henderson, her hair was almost done. Then I smell something weird, like burning plastic. I look down and there's actual smoke coming out of the back of my Babyliss dryer. Next thing I know a little flame shoots out the vent. I yelped and yanked the cord out of the wall so fast I almost knocked over my whole station. Mrs. Henderson just stared at me with her head half wrapped in a foil packet. I had to finish her dryer set with my backup which is this ancient Conair that sounds like a lawnmower. Turns out the motor just seized up after three years of heavy use. Anyone else have a tool just straight up die on them in the middle of a service?

Is it really that serious though? I mean vents get hot and sometimes they pop a little spark. I had a dryer shoot a spark once and I just unplugged it, blew it out, and plugged it back in and it was fine for another year. Not saying you should keep using a straight up fire hazard, but a little smoke and a flame doesn't always mean the thing is completely dead. Maybe it just needed a good cleaning.

a little smoke and a flame doesn't always mean the thing is completely dead" like the time @allen.amy chased a fire truck because it had a flat tire.
