Overheard a client say she never tips on color correction
I was blow drying a regular client the other day and she mentioned her friend went to a salon for a color fix from a box dye disaster. The stylist spent almost 3 hours fixing it, but the friend only tipped $5 because she thought color corrections don't count as a full service. It got me thinking, do we as stylists do a bad job explaining how much work color fixes really are? I charged my first fix $80 less than I should have because I felt bad. Has anyone else dealt with clients not understanding why a correction costs more than a regular color?

Totally agree with that point about the $5 tip being an insult. I have started being super upfront at the consultation about product costs and how much longer a correction takes, even showing them the price list for "time and material" services so they see it broken down. It usually helps set expectations way better than assuming they know what goes into it.

Read somewhere that color corrections are actually one of the most expensive services because of the product cost and time. A $5 tip on 3 hours is basically an insult, that's like $1.60 an hour. Most people don't realize the stylist is paying for extra product and their chair rental out of that service price too.
