PSA: Stop curling hair with the iron set at max heat every single time
I see so many stylists cranking their curling irons to 450 degrees for every client and it drives me crazy. Last week a girl came into my shop after getting her hair done somewhere else and the ends were practically fried. I used to think hotter meant the curl would last longer too, but after 8 years of grooming dogs and doing human hair on the side I learned lower heat with the right technique holds way better. Why are we treating every head of hair like it needs the same settings?

Tried lower heat on my own hair last week @jenniferwells and was SHOOK at how much better the curls held all day. I was convinced max heat was the only way to get that bounce but turns out I was just burning off all the moisture for no reason. Now I never go above 350 and my clients actually ask for touch-ups LESS often.

What happened when you finally tried lower heat?

My friend Laura finally tried lower heat on her hair last weekend and she texted me a picture of her curls like 8 hours later to prove it was still holding. She always used to crank her tool up to 400+ thinking she needed that much power to get any definition. Well she got tired of her hair feeling like straw by day two so she caved and tried 320 just to see what would happen. Her curls actually looked way softer and bouncier than her usual results and they didnt fall flat after sleeping on them. She said she felt stupid for frying her hair for years when all she had to do was turn the dial down.
