Remember when we all thought those gel polish lamps were just a fad?
Back in 2015, I was working in a salon in Tampa and thought the whole LED gel system was a waste of money. I was convinced the old UV lamps were fine and the new tech was just a gimmick to sell more stuff. What changed my mind was a client who came in with a chip-free manicure she'd done herself at home three weeks prior, using a cheap lamp she bought online. Seeing that durability on a real person, not just in an ad, made me finally try one. Has anyone else had a total 180 on a product or tool they swore they'd never use?

Man, I was the same way with those little makeup sponges that look like eggs. Thought they were the dumbest cash grab ever... swore by my trusty old brush. Then I tried one on a whim and ended up looking like I actually knew how to blend my foundation for once. Felt pretty silly for all my earlier ranting about it.

Hated those contouring sticks at first. Watching a friend use one well totally flipped my view.

But what if your friend just got lucky that one time? Most people end up looking like they have dirt smudges on their face, don't they? It seems like a lot of work and money for a trick that only works under perfect lighting. Maybe the problem isn't how we use them, but that the product itself is just a gimmick. Why bother with a special stick when a regular old brush and powder does the same thing without the mess?
