Shoutout to that little salon in Portland that fixed my shears for free

Stopped by a random shop called Shear Magic on my way to a client last week and the owner sharpened my thinning shears on the spot, no charge, has anyone else found a place that goes that extra mile?

Wait, "sharpened my thinning shears on the spot for free"? That's insane. I can't even get a guy to look at my kitchen scissors for less than twenty bucks around here. Did she just pull out a stone and go to work right there in the shop? That's some real old school service right there, most places would at least charge for the time. I'd honestly feel bad and have to buy something small like a comb or a brush on the way out.

My buddy Mike had something similar happen at a little barber shop in Portland. He walked in with this vintage straight razor his granddad left him, blade was chipped and dull as a butter knife. The old barber who ran the place didn't even blink, just took it to his bench and spent a good 15 minutes on a wet stone and a strop. He handed it back shaving sharp and waved off any cash Mike tried to give him. Mike ended up buying a $30 bottle of their own brand of beard oil just to not feel like a total mooch. He still talks about that guy like he's some kind of folk hero.
