Showerthought: A client in Boise said she'd rather have a healthy scalp than perfect volume
She told me, 'My hair will grow back, but this burning won't stop,' after I used my usual high heat. Has anyone else shifted their blowout technique for scalp sensitivity?

Oh man, absolutely. I had a client with the same issue, so I switched to a lower heat setting and keep the dryer moving constantly. It takes a bit longer but the relief on their face is totally worth it.

Watched my friend switch to a cool shot button halfway through and her client visibly relaxed.

My buddy Dave (works the chair next to me) has this attachment that drops the heat by like 30 degrees and he swears by it for the first pass. I tried it on a curly-haired lady last week and she went from flinching to almost falling asleep. It’s wild how something small like that can totally change the whole vibe.

...and honestly that's why I always joke that I'm running a tiny spa in my chair, not a salon. Like, I've literally had clients tell me my low heat setting made them feel like they were getting a scalp massage instead of a blowout. Ngl, I'm pretty sure the only reason I still have repeat customers is because I'm basically a hair whisperer who accidentally discovered that less heat = less flinching. Tbh, my secret weapon is just pointing the dryer away from their head half the time and pretending I'm really intentional about it. But hey, if it works, it works, right? I'll take the win over a crispy client any day.
