Warning: That 'quick gloss' shortcut almost ruined my client's hair

I had a client last Tuesday who wanted a subtle shine boost between colors. I tried that new at-home trick I saw online where you mix clear gloss with a drop of purple toner to save time. Big MISTAKE. I skipped the strand test because I was in a rush, and her ends turned a weird gray-blue after 10 minutes. Had to do a corrective treatment right there in the chair. Has anyone else had a DIY shortcut blow up in their face like this?

Honestly, "weird gray-blue" is the exact color my client's hair turned when I tried a similar shortcut with a clear gloss and purple toner. I thought I could just wing it and skip the strand test too, and yeah, that was a huge mistake. I ended up having to do a full color remover and a demi-permanent gloss to even her out, took like 2 extra hours. Ngl, never again.
