Blew a hydraulic line on a Grove RT last Tuesday and lost half the shift
I was setting steel on a warehouse job near Indianapolis and the swing drive hose just popped at the fitting. Oil sprayed everywhere and the crane locked up tight about 30 feet in the air. I set the load down slow using the emergency release, then called the shop to bring a spare hose. Took me 3 hours to get it swapped and cleaned up. Has anyone else dealt with a burst hydraulic line mid pick and how did you handle not having spare parts on site?

Ever had a spare hose kit on the truck and still not have the right fitting? That’s the worst. I keep a couple universal swivel adapters and a bag of JIC caps in my toolbox now after a similar mess on a Link-Belt. If you don't have a spare on site, you can sometimes use a compression fitting or a quick union to bypass the burst section just long enough to set the load safely and drive off the job. For the cleanup, kitty litter and a pressure washer work way better than rags and brake cleaner.
