Debate: Is the rule to never lift over people outdated or still the golden standard after what happened at a job in Detroit 3 years ago?

Last month at a site in Cleveland I had a foreman push me to swing a load over a walkway because it would save 20 minutes, and when I refused he called me paranoid, but 3 years ago in Detroit I watched a 2-ton beam slip its rigging and crash through a lunch truck that would have killed 4 guys if they hadn't stepped away 5 seconds earlier so who's right here?

Nah that foreman was wrong, your gut saved lives.

Wait, so the foreman actually said that out loud to you? I'm sitting here trying to wrap my head around someone in charge dismissing a safety concern like it's nothing. Good thing you trusted yourself, because that kind of pushback can make people doubt their own instincts.
