Hit 500,000 lbs on my load chart last Tuesday and it felt like nothing
So I run a 60 ton Grove at a precast yard outside Toledo and last week I finally crossed half a million pounds of total picks since January. I track it in a little notebook like a nerd, every load, every day, because our safety guy started a friendly contest to see who moves the most weight in a year. The funny part is pick number 500,000 was a stupid little 800 lb curb section that took me maybe 40 seconds, and the whole crew stood there watching like I was landing a 747. My counterweight buddy Jerry yelled 'that's it?' and honestly he was right, all those numbers mean nothing when the actual job is just smooth swing and no bounce. What got me was realizing it took me 11 months of double shifts to get there, and the guy who won last year did it in 8 because he ran the big gantry crane all summer. Now I'm sitting at 502,000 and wondering if the counter even matters or if I'm just chasing a number in a spiral notebook. Anyone else here keep track of total tonnage moved, or is that just a weird thing my yard does?
