Vent: Thought the digital level was a gimmick until it saved my butt on a 60 ton pick
Been running cranes for 12 years and always used a bubble level for outrigger setup. Old school, you know. Last month I was doing a pick in a tight spot near a 3 story building in downtown Nashville. The ground looked level but the digital level showed a 2 degree tilt I couldn't see. That thing saved me from a load shift that could've hit the building. Has anyone else had one of those tools they swore was overkill turn out to be worth every penny?

Gotta say it applies to a lot of stuff too. Same thing with a torque wrench - thought they were just for show until I snapped a bolt on a buddies truck and realized I'd been winging it wrong for years. Sometimes the fancy tool just makes you look at the obvious thing you were missing.

Cooper.nathan nailed it with the torque wrench example. Sometimes the "fancy" tool just forces you to double check the simple stuff you'd otherwise miss. A digital level or a torque wrench takes away the guesswork, and guesswork is where mistakes happen.

Man I gotta push back on that. You got lucky the digital level caught that tilt but honestly if you really know what you're looking at with a bubble level you can spot that stuff anyway. Sounds more like you got comfortable and stopped paying attention to the ground before you set up.
